BACOLOD City – One person was killed while three others were injured in a hacking, stabbing and shooting incident in Barangay Cabcab, Isabela, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the fatality as the 60-year-old resident Noel Perez who sustained hack and stab wounds on the body.
He was rushed to the Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Isabela where he was pronounced “dead on arrival.”
Among those who were injured were the 49-year-old Rodolfo Perez who bore hack and gunshot wounds on the legs, the 50-year-old Nolibert Pader who sustained a hack wound on the body, and the 23-year-old Mark Anthony Pader who sustained hack wounds on the face.
Rodolfo, Nolibert and Mark Anthony were brought to the Ignacio Lacson Arroyo Sr. Memorial District Hospital but were later transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod for treatment.
The incident happened around 7:40 p.m. on Thursday when Rodolfo – who the police said was drunk – accused Danvy Pader of throwing stones at his house.
Danvy was inside Nolibert’s house at the time together with their other family members. It was not immediately clear how Danvy and Nolibert were related.
An altercation followed. That was when Police Officer 3 Janet Untal, who was living nearby, tried to pacify them.
Noel, who was also drunk, suddenly appeared and attacked Untal with a bolo and a steel pipe but the latter was able to dodge it.
Rodolfo then hacked Nolibert, who retaliated using a bladed weapon.
Untal then fired a warning shot at the ground twice but Rodolfo tried to attack her, prompting the police officer to shoot him.
Mark Anthony, meanwhile, tried to pacify them but Noel hacked him, police said.
Investigation into the incident was still ongoing./PN
