MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Sunday warned public utility vehicle operators and drivers against increasing fares without its approval.

Petitions to raise fares for UV Express, jeepneys, and city and provincial buses are still pending before the agency, said LTFRB member Aileen Lizada.

Lizada said she received reports that some drivers and operators were raising fares, citing higher fuel prices.

She urged passengers to report unauthorized fare increases on the LTFRB Citizen Enforcer Facebook Page. She said it would help if the complainant can send the plate number of the vehicle involved.

Overcharging drivers and operators may be fined P5,000 on the first offense, and P10,000 and P15,000 for the succeeding offenses. Their licenses may also be revoked. (ABS-CBN News)
