FOUR teams – three are from the UAAP – are set to play in a four-day pocket basketball tournament from July 12 to 15 in the component city of Passi in Iloilo province.
Far Eastern University Tamaraws, National University Bulldogs, University of the Philippines Maroons and University of Cebu Webmasters have confirmed their participation, Ilonggo sportsman Rodolfo Villaruz said.
Seen to compose Tamaraws are Arvin Tolentino, Hubert Cani, Alejandrino Inigo, Kenneth Tuffin, Richard Escoto, Jasper Parker, Prince Orizu, Jose Trinidad, Barkley Ebona, and Alec Stocton.
Maroons will have Jun Manzo, Diego Dario, Juan Gomez de Liaño, Andres Desiderio, Frederick Tungcab Jr., Javier Gomez de Liaño, Bright Akhuetie, Felixberto Jaboneta IV, Jerson Prado, Will Gozum, Jose Longa, and Angelo Vito.
Bulldogs will comprise Chino Mosqueda, John Galinato, John Lloyd Clemente, Shaun Ildefonso, Issa Gaye, Arden Diputado, Enzo Joson, JV Gallego, Dave Yu, Jonas Tibayan, Matthew Aquino, Dave Ildefonso, Joshua Sinclair, and Mohammed Salim.
Webmasters has yet to submit its lineup but the team will parade prolific import Frederick Elombi, 6-foot-10 center Arman Demigaya, Justin Dacalos, Joey Manguerra, John Jabello, and Peter Codilla.
Villaruz partnered with the city government of Passi in holding the pocket tournament. A free basketball clinic will also be held for children in Passi.
“This is the first time we will hold a big basketball league,” said Mayor Jesry Palmares. “Passi City is very glad to hold this type of event that will inspire Passinhons and neighboring municipalities.”/PN
