ILOILO City – A pickup vehicle crashed against a tricycle in Barangay San Vicente, Leganes, Iloilo. The tricycle driver, Arnaldo Calmerin, was killed.
Calmerin, a 39-year-old resident of Barangay Agutayan, Santa Barbara town, sustained a head injury in the June 6 collision.
He expired at the West Visayas State University Medical Center in Jaro district.
The pickup driver – Roger Villanueva of Barangay Tanghawan, Dingle town – turned himself in to the Leganes police station.
Police identified him as the husband of the former vice mayor of Dingle, Dr. Dalyn Villanueva.
The Leganes police released Villanueva after an amicable settlement with the Calmerin family.
Calmerin was driving to the Leganes town proper at around 12:15 a.m. on June 6 when the pickup crashed into his tricycle’s sidecar at an intersection, initial investigation showed.
Calmerin was thrown off his vehicle, and fell on the concrete road and hit his head, police said.
Dr. Villanueva, who was with her husband at the time, tried to revive the victim but the couple decided to rush him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead./PN
