BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) asked President Rodrigo Duterte to declare June 18 as a special nonworking holiday in this capital city to commemorate the signing of Commonwealth Act No. 326, or “The Charter of the City of Bacolod.”
The signing will be commemorated as part of the yearlong 80th anniversary celebration of Bacolod’s cityhood.
The SP requested the declaration through a resolution that it approved during its regular session on Wednesday.
Resolution proponent Councilor Caesar Distrito reiterated that former president Manuel Quezon signed the Act on June 18, 1938, which marked the creation of Bacolod City.
Distrito also cited City Ordinance No. 588 series of 2012, which directs for the commemoration of the “momentous” event among Bacolodnons.
He added that it is “fitting” to declare June 18 as a holiday in Bacolod for that reason.
Distrito also said the bill that seeks to declare June 18 of every year as a special nonworking holiday in the city was already passed in its second reading at Senate./PN
