Hua Siong, St. Robert’s go 2-0 in Bingawan cagefest

HUA Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix opened its campaign in the 2nd Bingawan Foundation Cup High School Basketball Premier Tournament with twin wins on Friday at the Bingawan National High School Gym.

Red Phoenix, the reigning WVRAA Meet champion, scored a lopsided 84-35 victory over Ateneo de Iloilo Blue Dragons. Lee Jimera led the way with 13 points for Red Phoenix.

Hua Siong was able to score a follow-up victory in the afternoon as it waylaid host Bingawan National High School 128-75. Reneil Gamboa finished with 22 points for Red Phoenix.

For its part, St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets cruised to its second straight win as it whipped Blue Dragons 119-56. Marc Beaver Baruela top-scored with 16 points for Panda Rockets.

Hercor College Junior Jaguars, meanwhile, relied on the 27-point explosion of Janwell Famaranco to defeat defending champion Santa Clarita International High School Primes 109-91.

Blue Dragons was able to bounce back later in the day as it scored a close 87-83 win over Bingawan National High School. Augustine Leonard Denila finished with 24 points for Blue Dragons.

Action resumes today with Primes taking on University of San Agustin at 1 p.m. and CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights facing Red Phoenix at 3:30 p.m./PN
