BACOLOD City – The Department of Public Services (DPS) must coordinate with the IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) – the city’s sole contractor for sanitary services – to address an issue against garbage collectors, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Leonardia said this after receiving reports that some garbage collectors of IPM-CDC are soliciting money from locals.
The garbage collectors are using the money to buy snacks, Leonardia added.
The mayor said he was surprised upon knowing such, adding that he “never expected it to happen.”
“That is a matter we have to deal with. We will [tap] the management [of IPM-CDC],” Leonardia stressed.
He added that IPM-CDC has a policy prohibiting its employees to solicit.
The company has two separate contracts with the city government, both covering the period April 1 to Dec. 31 this year.
One contract worth P71,984,261.26 is for the operation of the sanitary landfill in Barangay Felisa while the other, worth P148,388,285, for the collection of garbage in the city.
Meanwhile, the DPS is responsible for the day-to-day solid waste management in Bacolod.
Specifically, it is tasked to clean the city streets. It also manages and attends to various activities related to cleanliness and sanitation campaigns./PN
