New Bredco port ‘not yet fully operational’

BACOLOD City – The P360-million state-of-the-art seaport in this capital city is not yet fully operational, said Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) president John Alonte.

The inauguration of the seaport was supposed to be yesterday but due to the delays in construction, it was moved.

Some of the port’s facilities, like those for persons with disabilities, were still unfinished. X-ray machines for security purposes have not yet been installed, too.

Alonte said they still do not have a definite date for the inauguration but added that it will be “announced soon.”

Despite this, a new terminal is already being used by To Go fast crafts, the reason that higher terminal fees are being collected from passengers.

The new terminal offers several amenities for the passengers, like WiFi connection and an air-conditioned waiting area.

Once completed, the terminal would not cater to fast crafts alone but also to roll-on/roll-off vessels.

It will also have a clinic, a children’s playground, a VIP room, a prayer room, and a nursing area, among others.

Bredco manages port operations at Bacolod’s Reclamation Area through a contract with the city government./PN
