ILOILO – The regional oversight committee on the campaign against illegal drugs certified as “drug-cleared” all the 22 barangays of the municipality of Mina.
According to the committee – made up of the regional offices of the Department of Interior and Local Government, Department of Health, Police Regional Office 6, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – the villages met the parameters set in Section 6 of Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 3, Series of 2017.
Mina is a fifth-class municipality in central Iloilo province some 38 kilometers north of Iloilo City.
During yesterday’s formal declaration in Mina, the committee also noted the active involvement of barangay officials in anti-drug activities, the existence of drug awareness, preventive education and information and programs, and the operation of voluntary and compulsory drug treatment and rehabilitation processing desks in the barangays.
According to the 2015 census, Mina has a population of 23,546 people. The major source of income of the residents is rice farming. Some are engaged in livelihood projects such as hog raising/fattening, poultry and small business enterprises.
The parameters set in Section 6 of Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation No. 3, Series of 2017 are: no available illegal drugs; no drug transit / transshipment activity; no clandestine drug laboratory, drug warehouse, clandestine chemical warehouse or marijuana cultivation site; no drug den; and no drug pusher, drug user/dependent, protector/coddler or financier.
The 22 barangays of Mina are Abat, Agmanaphao, Amiroy, Badiangan, Bangac, Cabalabaguan, Capul-an, Dala, Guibuangan, Janipa-an West, Janipa-an East, Mina East (Poblacion), Mina West (Poblacion), Nasirum, Naumuan, Singay, Talibong Grande, Talibong Pequeño, Tipolo, Tolarucan, Tumay, and Yugot.
Mina has a total land area of 4,340 hectares. Being predominantly agriculture, 97 percent of its land area is classified as rural./PN
