BORACAY – Properties worth some P300,000 went up in smoke after fire hit residential houses and commercial establishments in this famed island resort.
The blaze started at around 2:08 a.m. on Wednesday, first gutting the area near the Balabag Elementary School beside the Writesuff School and Office Supplies Store, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
Fire trucks from the Boracay Fire substation, Boracay Action Group and other volunteer groups were dispatched after a fire call was sent to the Joint Boracay Task Force operations center.
“Pagdating namin may dalawang bahay na nasusunog. Dikitdikit ang kabahayan at mahirap makapasok ang ating mga fire trucks dahil sa narrow alley,” said Fire Officer III Franklin Arubang.
A fire truck from the Kalibo BFP also helped in putting out the fire later.
Arubang said a TV repair shop and two houses made of light materials were totally destroyed while a boutique shop and a house were partially damaged.
“May isang structure na kalapit ng mga nasunog na hindi naman nadamay,” Arubang added.
No casualty was recorded in the early morning fire, the BFP said.
The blaze was declared under control at 2:40 a.m. Thirteen minutes after, the BFP declared a “fire out.”
Fire investigators were still determining the cause of the fire, Arubang said. (With Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
