ILOILO City – Seven residents of M.H. Del Pilar Street, Jaro district are facing illegal gambling charges.
They were caught playing mahjong and the card game tong-its, police said.
Arrested and detained at the custodial facility of the Jaro police station were:
* Jelyn Francisco, 56
* Christina Jacome, 43
* Caesar Barabona, 61
* Manuel Conpreras, 49
* Rosen Marquez, 68
* Lademar Palma, 62
* Roberto Sabidong, 51
Officers caught Francisco, Jacome, Barabona, and Conpreras playing mahjong at around 4 p.m. on June 19. Bet money worth P560 and a mahjong set were seized from them, police said.
Marquez, Palma and Sabidong, on the other hand, were caught playing tong-its. Police seized their playing cards and P375 worth of bet money.
Presidential Decree 1602 penalizes anyone engaged in games using plastic tiles such as mahjong and several card games “wherein wagers consisting of money, articles of value or representative of value are at stake or made.”/PN
