BACOLOD City – At least 25 jobseekers in Negros Occidental have recently gained employment through the Department of Labor and Employment(DOLE) Region 6’s conduct of a job fair to celebrate the 120th Declaration of Philippine Independence.
A total of 927 applicants looking for employment and training opportunities registered in the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) job and business fairs at 888 Chinatown Square – Premiere in Bacolod City last June 12.
DOLE regional director Johnson G. Cañete reported that of the total registered applicants, 686 were considered as “near hires” or those job seekers that may be hired pending final interview or compliance with pre-employment requirements set by the company they applied in.
“Most of the hired-on-the-spot applicants were for various local positions, namely, mechanical engineer, service crew, massage therapist, accounting and sales staff and cashier,” Cañete added.
The jobfair gathered a total of 28 local and overseas placement employers which brought more than 4,600 vacancies for customer service representatives, restaurant crew, massage therapists, accounting staff, engineers, drivers, carpenters, sales and customer associates and laborers.
The TNK activity was conducted in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) which held orientations on Entrepreneurship and Skills Demonstration on fashion accessories.
DOLE also turned-over two cheques to local government units in Negros Occidental under its DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP). The proponents were Barangay Buenavista, Murcia with a grant amounting to P1,000,000.00 benefitting 53 workers for their bamboo crafts project, and Barangay San Isidro, EB Magalona also amounting to P1,000,000.00 for their working carabao and rice trading projects benefitting 118 PWDs, senior citizens and farmers.
A DOLE clinic was also set-up where various agencies of the government participated to provide free services and assistance. Participating agencies were the Philippine Overseas Employment Authority (POEA), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), PhilHealth, Social Security System (SSS) and Pag-Ibig Fund.
Other activities were also simultaneously conducted, including a career coaching activity which was participated by Senior High School students and selected beneficiaries of the Government Internship Program (GIP) of DOLE in Negros Occidental. Another is a livelihood fair which featured the products of DOLE-assisted projects to advocate DILP and help the beneficiaries gain income from the activity.
This year’s celebration of Philippine Independence was observed with the theme, “Kalayaan 2018: Pagbabagong Ipinaglaban, Alay sa Masaganang Kinabukasan.”/PN
