BACOLOD City – Swimming in a river turned fatal for a man in Purok Kaduldulan, Barangay Plaridel, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
The 40-year-old Gino Cañete of Hacienda Lourdes, Barangay Bonifacio, Sagay City drowned, a police report showed.
Cañete went swimming in Bayong River around 3:30 p.m. on June 21. A few minutes later, witness Michael Fajardo saw Cañete struggling in the water.
Fajardo then asked help from residents in the area.
They were able to fetch Cañete out of the river and rushed him to the Lopez District Farmers’ Hospital in Sagay City where attending physician Dr. Ma. Fatima Villanueva pronounced him “dead on arrival.”/PN
