62 couples tie knot in free mass wedding

ILOILO City – Sixty-two couples in this city got married in a mass wedding held to mark the birthday of Mayor Jose Espinosa III.

At the Ker & Co. building beside city hall, Espinosa officiated the mass wedding on June 19, a day before his birthday.

The youngest to marry was 19 years old while the oldest was 66.

“Wedding is very important,” Espinosa told the couples. “We are making a family. The family is our basic social institution and government should see to it that we enhance and protect our families.”

Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon, representing his father Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, shared an inspirational message to the couples.

“The most difficult thing in marriage is to be understanding…We should always give space to our wives…As husbands, we should always have commitment, which means no secrets at all,” said Ganzon.

Councilors Candice Magdalane Tupas and Ely Estante also addressed the couples.

“If you love a person, you should always be ready to sacrifice everything for that person,” Tupas said.

For his part, Estante said, “I wish that all of you will love, care and understand each other. No matter what happens, stay forever as couples.”

The mass wedding was organized by the City Population Office and City Civil Registration Office. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
