Dam project to address flood problem in Culasi

SAN JOSE, Antique – The construction of a P200-million dam in Antique’s northern town of Culasi will address the flood problem in the area, said Gov. Rhodora Cadiao.

The dike project is set for groundbreaking this Friday.

Cadiao on Monday said the multimillion-peso project will fortify the old dam, which was constructed about 50 years ago.

“It will benefit the whole town of Culasi and it will especially address the flooding problem that also affects even the district hospital there,” Cadiao said.

The old dam has a crack that causes flooding in the town.

“I am happy that there will be a mega dike soon to be constructed because the old dam was established when my father was still governor,” Cadiao said.

She thanked Sen. Lore Legarda for the realization of the project. Legarda chairs the Senate committee on finance.

The old dam irrigates farmlands in Culasi. The water is from the river basin from Mount Madiaas, one of the highest peaks in Panay Island. (With a report from PNA/PN)
