MANILA – A Bacolod City native taekwondo jin captured a gold medal in the 2018 Philippine National Poomsae Taekwondo at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Jamie Hannah Canja Agaloos, a Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) national champion, topped the Cadet (ages 14 to 16 years old) Poomsae Taekwondo event.

Agaloos bested 61 participants from across the country for the top 16 rank in the selection round.

The top 16 athletes then competed against each other in a single-elimination round, leaving only eight winners to move on to the next round.

The 13-year-old Agaloos along with bets from Iloilo, Baguio and National Capital Region topped the quarterfinals. The Bacolodnon then set up a gold medal clash with an NCR poomsae player.

Agaloos, an incoming second year high school student in Tangub Christian Academy in Bacolod City, got the nod of four out of five judges to clinch the gold in the finals.

A member of the Philippine Taekwondo National Team, Agaloos has been a consistent gold medalist in the Negros Occidental Private Schools Sports Cultural Educational Association (Nopsscea), Palarong Panlalawigan and Regional Palaro.

Last year she was selected as National Palarong Pambansa Most Valuable Player in elementary girls taekwondo after winning two national gold medals – one for the sparring (kyorugi) event and another for the forms (poomsae) event./PN
