‘We don’t solicit money’

BACOLOD City – The city’s sanitary service contractor said it does not allow its employees to solicit money from residents for any purpose.

IPM-Construction and Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) project supervisor Daryl Abiol said people who are using their company’s name in such “illegal” activity must be reported to their office in Barangay Tangub.

Residents may also call IPM-CDC’s hotline number 7075353, he added.

Abiol issued the statement after the 35-year-old Junar Barrios of Barangay Granada was arrested for allegedly using IPM-CDC’s name in collecting donations for the funeral services of his supposed co-worker Perfercto Baquilar on June 30.

IPM-CDC driver Joselito Tabulong and garbage collector Antonio Despojo alerted the police after they caught Barrios in the act of soliciting money from residents in Barangay Tangub at around 2 p.m. that day.

Barrios used a solicitation letter, Tabulong and Despojo told the cops.

The letter had a letterhead “City of Bacolod, Department of Public Services” and referred to Baquilar as IPM-CDC’s foreman, they added.

Abiol said IPM-CDC did not employ anyone named Perfercto Baquilar, though he was told by the city’s Department of Public Services that the man was indeed dead.

Barrios was released from Police Station 8’s detention cell yesterday. No proper charges were filed against him, police said.

Abiol said they were still securing an affidavit from Barrios’ victims before filing swindling and estafa charges against him.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, for his part, referred the matter to the City Legal Office (CLO). He wants the CLO to conduct an “in-depth investigation.”/PN
