MANILA – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has announced that the rehabilitation of Kalibo International Airport (KIA) started on Monday, July 2.
According to a statement released Sunday morning, the 6-month closure of Boracay will be utilized to finish the P17.9 million rehabilitation of the airport.
“The traffic and passenger movement cutback due to the ongoing Boracay Island closure from April until October this year will significantly allow several projects to be put into action,” CAAP said in a statement
KIA rehabilitation includes:
- refurbishment of existing passenger terminal building
- repainting of the international passenger terminal building interiors
- landside beautification through landscaping, electrical system and air conditioning system rewiring
- enhancement of railings and barricades
- re-blocking of Apron Pavement (to start on Sept. 4)
- runway Strip Grade Correction ( to start on Nov. 22)
- construction of a Power House (to start on Nov. 24)
KIA served a total of 2,520,168 passengers in 2017 consisting of local and foreign tourists
