BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia is looking for someone who can replace Engineer Ruel Garaygay as officer-in-charge of the city’s Department of Public Services (DPS).
Leonardia announced this after Garaygay’s daughter – the 31-year-old Hannah Mae – died in a house fire in Barangay Villamonte on July 7.
Hannah Mae was trapped inside the burning house after saving her two children by letting them out through the window, said City Fire Marshal Publio Ploteña.
“We know how devastating the experience is. We will try to look for someone who can fill in the position for the meantime,” said the mayor.
Leonardia added that he already tasked his staff to make a list of individuals who can take over the DPS, whose role in the city is “very critical.”
The DPS, being the focal agency in the implementation of street cleaning services and solid waste management program, is in charge of maintaining cleanliness on Bacolod’s main streets.
