Sagay man shot dead

BACOLOD City – A man who tried to hack three persons including two minors was shot dead in Purok San Juan, Barangay Fabrica, Sagay City, Negros Occidental.

Sagay City police head Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto identified the man as the 30-year-old resident Ruel Luneta.

Luneta, according to the police, was mentally ill.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Members of the Barangay Peace Action Team tried to pacify Luneta but he attacked them with a cane cutter.

That was when Senior Police Officer 1 Ronnie Sanico fired a warning shot.

But Luneta also tried to attack Sanico, prompting the latter to fire at him, police said.

Luneta sustained a gunshot wound on the body and was rushed to the Lopez District Farmer’s Hospital, Inc. in Sagay City where the attending physician pronounced him “dead on arrival.”/PN
