BACOLOD City – Filing a letter against the city government’s application for a P1.7-billion loan at the Department of Finance (DOF) is a form of “sabotage,” according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
DOF secretary Carlos Dominguez said they received a letter opposing the city’s loan application from a politician, Leonardia told reporters yesterday.
The mayor did not reveal the identity of the letter sender but said the person plans to run in the 2019 midterm elections.
Leonardia, however, was not certain if for what position.
“Hulaton ta lang ang tion mag–abot ang pamulitka kag dira kita makampanya kag mamulitika,” Leonardia added. “Sa subong kuntani naga-apelar gid ako sa ini nga masyado ka ambisyoso nga hulata lang ang tyempo maabot gid na ang election.”
The mayor said he is waiting for a copy of the opposition letter from the DOF.
The city government plans to use the loan to fund projects like the development of the Progreso Village Relocation Site and the Bacolod City College, construction of the Bacolod MassKara Coliseum, and several road and bridge developments.
Leonardia said the projects are all “for the betterment of the city.”
He also said the loan application was not rushed, adding that it has undergone a “long process.”/PN
