ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) has given its campaign Project Bringing Order to the Nemesis of Gangs (Project BONG) a new twist.
Project BONG, which aims to curb youth gang violence, has a new feature called “TokGang.” Personnel of the ICPO’s Women and Children Protection Desk would be visiting the houses of identified youth gang members and encourage them to participate in more wholesome activities.
According to ICPO spokesperson Senior Inspector Shella Mae Sangrines, out-of-school youngsters are also included in the campaign.
“The ICPO is focused on youths and gangs. We are doubling our saturation drive in the enforcement of the curfew ordinance for minors,” said Sangrines.
The curfew for minors is from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
But Sangrines stressed that “apprehension is not the solution” to the problem on juvenile delinquents. Project BONG offers activities where youngsters can channel their energies to better endeavors, she said.
“We seek the cooperation and full commitment of parents in this campaign,” said Sangrines.
The ICPO is also enlisting the help of barangay officials and tanods.
“The best interest of the youth is our utmost priority,” said Sangrines.
