MANILA – The assassination of local politicians is not yet over as a Maguindanao town former vice mayor was shot dead while he was on his way home in Barangay New Isabela, Tacurong City.
Two motorcycle-riding in tandem men gunned down Datu Roger Mamalo, former vice mayor of Sultan sa Barongis town, around 8:20 p.m. on Friday.
The gunmen used a .45-caliber pistol in shooting the 63-year-old former local official who was alone in his car at the time, said Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police director James Gumatico.
The suspects – a driver and a shooter – fled after the incident.
It was not yet clear whether the motive was politically motivated or personal.
Two weeks ago, two mayors were killed in two consecutive days.
Tanauan City, Batangas mayor Antonio Halili was killed on July 2 while General Tinio, Nueva Ecija mayor Ferdinand Bote, on July 3.
Two vice mayors were also ambushed this month – Trece Martires, Cavite vice mayor Alex Lubigan and Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi vice mayor Al-Rashid Mohammad Ali./PN
