SAN JOSE, Antique – The Antique Police Provincial Office (APPO) will deploy its personnel to 18 towns in the province for the conduct of an intensified region-wide campaign against loose firearms.
House-to-house visits under the “TokHang Kontra Guinadilian nga Pusil” program of the Police Regional Office 6 targets to confiscate about 3,138 unregistered firearms in Antique by end of August.
APPO director Senior Superintendent Leo Irwin Agpangan on Monday said the anti-loose firearm drive launched last week is proactive measure against criminality.
The APPO is encouraging gun owners with expired licenses to surrender their firearms.
An accomplishment report covering the period January to June this year showed that there are now 84 confiscated firearms under the custody of the Antique police.
One of the confiscated guns was used in a crime, APPO added.
The rest were recovered through the Oplan Katok and the implementation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Agpangan said they are seeking support from the media to inform communities about the intensified campaign. (With a report from PNA/PN)
