MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers got a fitting revenge against Petron Blaze Spikers after bagging the Philippine Superliga Invitational title with a 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 win in Game 2 of the finals on Saturday night at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig City.
Tournament MVP Ara Galang and Abigail Maraño led the way with 15 points each while Mary Joy Baron and Cha Cruz-Behag had 10 markers each for Cargo Movers.
Best Setter awardee Kim Fajardo was also instrumental for Cargo Movers with 33 excellent sets on top of 21 digs and three points while Best Libero Dawn Macandili had 26 digs.
From a tight exchange early in the opening set, Cargo Movers unloaded a 7-2 scoring run behind Cruz-Behag to pull to a 17-11 lead. Michelle Morente then rose to the occasion, unloading 3 of the last 5 points to claim the set.
After bowing in the second set, Cargo Movers struggled early in the third frame before building a 23-17 advantage. Blaze Spikers countered with a run to come to within 22-24 before Maraño closed the set for Cargo Movers with a running hit.
Cargo Movers turned aggressive early in the fourth set but Blaze Spikers hung around, making it settle for a 14-11 lead. Cruz-Behag delivered clutch hits for F2 Logistics to pull away 23-17 and never look back.
“Sobrang happy kami kasi malakas talaga na kalaban iyong Petron,” said Cargo Movers head coach Ramil De Jesus. “Ginusto talaga siguro ng mga players ko today. Hindi nila hinayaan na tumagal pa iyong laro o iyong Finals.”
Cherry Rondina, who was named the second Best Outside Spiker, finished with triple-double 20 points, 20 digs and 12 excellent receptions while Bernadeth Pons added 13 markers for Petron./PN
