BACOLOD City – The Anti-Illegal Drugs Regional Oversight Committee has declared Barangay 5 “drug-cleared,” according to its village chief Raymundo Salaveria.
Salaveria announced this in a press conference yesterday at the Bacolod City Government Center.
Barangay 5 is the first village in Bacolod declared to be free from illegal drugs.
Salaveria said the Oversight Committee approved Barangay 5’s application for the declaration after he and Executive Assistant Rodel Parcon presented a report during a July 27 evaluation in Iloilo City.
The Oversight Committee is composed of representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Department of Health, Department of Interior and Local Government, and Philippine National Police.
The report that Salaveria and Parcon presented was that of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
The report stressed Bacolod’s strong support to and compliance with the policies, programs and projects of the Dangerous Drugs Board and PDEA, especially the barangay drug-clearing program.
It cited Barangay 5 for its “laudable antidrug activities” – the reason that it got CADAC’s endorsement to the Oversight Committee./PN
