13 injured in airport access road collision

TALISAY City, Negros Occidental – Thirteen persons were injured – two of them in critical condition – in a six-vehicle smashup on the access road of the Bacolod-Silay Airport in Barangay Matab-ang on Tuesday.

The crash at around 3 p.m. prompted a road closure that lasted almost two hours, according to the Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).

The collision involved an Isuzu truck, a Suzuki Carry cab, a red Mazda sport utility vehicle, a black Toyota Innova, a black Ford Everest, and a black Toyota Vios, the Talisay DRRMO said.

According to Mazda driver Joe Jay Doctora, the speeding Everest crashed against the Suzuki Carry cab, which then bumped into the truck and the Toyota Vios.

The Everest – driven by Gian Ayalin – then swerved right, hitting the Innova.

The drivers and passengers of the Suzuki Carry cab, the truck and the Everest were among those hospitalized.

They were Ayalin and his passengers Rolyn Dave Mahinay, Rich Piorque, Niel Yanson, and Reban Guintos; Suzuki Carry driver Harold Angat and passengers Mark Almansar, Cianon Erica Almansar, Abbie Angat, and Rossini Angat; and truck driver Leonilo Millabo and his passenger Elsie Millabor.

As of posting time, the injured individuals were undergoing treatment at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Bacolod Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital and the Riverside Hospital – all in Bacolod City.
