SAN JOSE, Antique – A man driving on his way home was shot several times on the national highway in Sitio Igbangto, Barangay Mabasa, Patnongon, Antique yesterday morning.
The 53-year-old Ulysses Sualog of Barangay Igbarawan, Patnongon sustained gunshot wounds on the back, cheeks and right eye, police said.
He was brought to the Bugasong Medicare Community Hospital in Bugasong, Antique and later transferred to the Antique Medical Center in this capital town.
Sualog – who was under a critical condition – needed to be transferred to a hospital in Iloilo City for further treatment.
Police were still identifying the motorcycle-riding gunmen who fired at Sualog inside his black Ford Eco sports utility vehicle around 6:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
Sualog is an Oplan Tokhang surrenderee, police confirmed.
Some villagers who went to the crime scene after hearing the gunshots said the suspects immediately fled.
The car’s windshield and driver’s door were riddled with bullets. The vehicle’s front bumper and headlights were also damaged after it crashed against trees along the road.
Village watchmen recovered five fired cartridges of a .45-caliber pistol from the crime scene.
One more fired cartridge and two fired bullets were also recovered by the scene of the crime operatives.
The car was now under the custody of the Patnongon police.
