Taculing ‘ready to be model barangay for waste mgt’

Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City

BACOLOD City – Barangay Taculing is now ready to be this capital city’s model village in implementing the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (Republic Act 9003), according to its village chief Lady Gles Gonzales.

Gonzales said this after she was elected as Liga ng mga Barangay president on Monday at the Bacolod City Government Center.

She stressed that the needed facilities and materials to implement the city government’s “no segregation, no collection” policy were already in place.

Gonzales added she already talked to Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran regarding the city’s Solid Waste Action Team’s plan to make Taculing as a “model barangay” for waste management.

She said she and her barangay’s Solid Waste Committee had also held talks with the IPM-Construction and Development Corp., the city’s sanitary service contractor.

They are now scheduled to meet subdivision homeowners’ association representatives and purok presidents in Taculing, added Gonzales.

Once proven effective, the solid waste management practices of Taculing will be replicated by other villages in Bacolod, Familiaran said.

RA 9003 aims to protect public health and environment by ensuring proper segregation, collection, transport, storage, treatment, and disposal of solid waste.

It mandates local government units to formulate and adopt “the best environmental practice in ecological waste management.”/PN
