ILOILO City – The satellite campus of Northern Iloilo Polytechnic State College (NIPSC) in Batad, Iloilo was looted.
Cash reaching P80,000 was stolen from the finance office, according to Chief Inspector Ciriaco Esquilarga, Batad police chief.
The burglary was discovered on Monday morning. The robbers may have entered the campus before dawn or late night on Sunday, said Esquilarga.
The campus had only one security guard and he was posted at the main entrance of the school.
“He discovered the break-in during a routine morning inspection,” said Esquilarga.
As of this writing, the Batad police was yet to name any suspect.
The school had no security cameras.
NIPSC’s main campus is in Estancia, Iloilo. The robbery at its Batad campus was the third looting involving schools in this province.
On May 23, robbers ransacked the Dumangas, Iloilo campus of the Iloilo City-based Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) in Barangay PD Monfort.
The burglars entered the cashier’s office and carted away P470,000 kept in vault.
On June 3, West Visayas State University’s (WVSU) campus in Lambunao, Iloilo was also looted.
The finance and registrar’s offices were forcibly opened. Robbers took P11,000 cash.
These two cases remained unsolved as of this writing.
Following these two robberies, Senior Superintendent Marlon Tayaba, provincial police director, ordered police units to intensify intelligence monitoring of robbery groups.
