MANILA – Negros First cruised to its fourth straight triumph in the 2018 Junior League Softball World Series by beating Central (Ohio) at the Everest Ballpark in Kirkland, Washington on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila).
Bacolod City’s Glecilyn Alipato continued her stellar play as she did not allow a single run against Central for the second straight shutout win by the Philippines and Asia-Pacific representative.
A standout from Domingo Lacson National High School, Alipato earned the victory for the Negrenses as she allowed four hits and zero runs over seven innings.
Alipato also struck out 10 runs from Central as both teams showed their strong pitching in the entire match.
Angela Solidarios, Shanayah Sion, Elemar Olarte, and Mea Tubongbanua all had one hit each to lead Negros First. Ma. Victoria Magbanua had 13 chances in the field – the most on the team.
Mia Opalick, who had a near shot in the second inning, took the loss for Central as she went four and a third innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out one.
Negros First was slated to play in the crossover quarterfinal round Thursday (Friday in Manila) against a yet to be determined opponent./PN
