MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) was urged to hold “extensive consultations” with public and private sectors that hired high school graduates under the K-12 program.
This will help the DepEd assess the performance and quality of K-12 graduates, said Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian.
“This feedback will be critical to crafting the reforms needed to improve the employability of K-12 graduates,” Gatchalian said.
“K-12 graduates deserve to be rewarded for their long years of hard work in school with good jobs that will empower them to provide a better standard of living for their families,” he added.
Earlier the Education department said it would review the K-12 program two years after its nationwide implementation.
“We will review the curriculum from kindergarten to Grade 12 because we have been getting feedback as well and we are welcoming feedback from the public about the curriculum content,” Secretary Leonor Briones said.
Gatchalian said he wants to know if K-12 graduates are “better suited” for employment than the graduates of the old 10-year basic education curriculum.
“The answer to this question is especially important for graduates of the tech-voc senior high school track because they expect to join the workforce right after graduation,” he said./PN
