Will Bacolod SP have a quorum on Friday?

BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) will not hold a session today. It moved the regular meeting to Friday.

SP secretary Vicente Petierre III said a resolution for the change of schedule was passed weeks ago before some SP members went abroad.

Moving the session two days behind its regular Wednesday schedule will ensure a quorum, which will allow the SP to finally transact business.

For two weeks, the SP failed to act on pending resolutions due to lack of quorum, which Councilor Ricardo Tan called a “black eye to the good name” of the city council.

Tan said the SP members who flew abroad should have taken into consideration that public interest will be jeopardized should they leave the city en masse.

Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and councilors Caesar Distrito, Em Ang, Renecito Novero, Bartolome Orola, Cindy Rojas, and Dindo Ramos went to Long Beach City in July for an official 16-day trip to attend the Californian city’s version of MassKara Festival.

They will be back in the city tomorrow, Petierre said./PN
