ILOILO City – The most reliable survey is on election day when voters get choose their city mayor, said Mayor Jose Espinosa III.
He played down a survey showing him trailing Cong. Jerry Treñas in the race for city mayor.
“Serving the public is what’s more important right now than being preoccupied with surveys. Ang survey magwa lang na kon madayon ang eleksyon…ang ultimate survey,” said Espinosa.
In the survey of Random Access Consultants, Inc. (RACI) from July 27 to 29, 2018 in 60 barangays, 62.2 percent of respondents expressed preference for Treñas – more than double the number of respondents (29.5 percent) that said they would vote for Espinosa.
Espinosa urged voters to be discerning.
“Look who is working hard for you, who checks the barangay. Himulsuhe niyo,” he said.
The 600 respondents in the RACI survey were residents at least 18 years old and registered voters. Across seven districts (City Proper, Lapuz, La Paz, Jaro, Mandurriao, Molo, and Arevalo), Treñas dominated Espinosa.
“Part lang ina sang mind-conditioning,” said Espinosa.
He wondered who commissioned the survey.
“Ako halin sang una never nag-commission sang survey because it is very expensive. Ti kon ikaw nag-commission and you lose the election, ti disgarsya gid ina,” said Espinosa.
Overall in the survey, six in 10 voters preferred Treñas while only three in 10 voters preferred Espinosa.
The overall undecided in this survey was at 8.3 percent.
With a margin of error of ± 4 percent, the survey’s level of confidence was pegged at 95 percent./PN
