BACOLOD City – The Leonardia Panaligan Command of the New People’s Army (NPA) admitted killing two village chiefs last week.
The NPA command based in Central Negros said in separate statements that it “successfully imposed death penalties” on the village chiefs it identified as Agapito Euroba of Barangay San Agustin, Isabela, Negros Occidental and Virgilio Masicampo of Barangay Magsaysay, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.
NPA spokesman Ka JB Regalado said their forces killed Euroba and Masicampo on Aug. 10.
Police in Isabela and Guihulngna City initially said Euroba and Masicampo were killed by armed men.
Regalado said the two village chiefs were “spies” of the Philippine Army and committed “sins” against the masses and the revolutionary movement.
He added that they had been warning Euroba of penalties since 2012 but the latter did not stop his “anti-people” activities.
The NPA also accused Euroba of helping the Army in arresting 11 farmers who they tagged as rebels in Isabela.
Masicampo, on the other hand, was accused of land grabbing./PN
