BOXERS from Iloilo City and Passi City captured gold medals in boxing during the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Visayas Open 2018 Iloilo leg.
Jan Christopher Serrano topped the 30kg division after beating fellow Iloilo City native Jhan Ryan Pangunsan. Edwin Carmona of Iloilo City ruled 40kg at the expense of Ted Cabizan.
Ulysses Daliva of Iloilo City claimed gold in 46kg by outpointing Joybert Lopez, also of Iloilo City during matches on Aug. 12 at SM City Iloilo. John Rey Callejas of lloilo City ripped Nino Espina of Passi City in 50kg.
Another Iloilo City bet, Harry Camacho, bagged gold by defeating Ajay Ocampo, also of Iloilo City, in a tightly contested 52kg finale.
Joseph Betita of Passi City, meanwhile, took gold in 58kg at the expense of John Harold, while another Passinhon, Ruel Panes, grabbed gold in 42kg against Iloilo City’s Wilfredo Castro.
Boxing was one of the seven regular sports in the Visayas Open aside from marathon, arnis, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, and karatedo. Weightlifting, judo and archery were demonstrative sports.
After the Iloilo leg the PSC Visayas Open will return to Western Visayas on Oct. 27 to 28 with Aklan province as host./PN
