ILOILO City – A member of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) detachment in Tapaz, Capiz shot his commander.
Bonny Jimenez, 39, of Barangay Taganghin, Tapaz was arrested and detained at the Tapaz police station.
His commander, Staff Sergeant Ronilo Esoy, 40, died instantly.
A member of the Philippine Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB), Esoy was designated as detachment commander of the Cafgu in Barangay Da-an Sur, Tapaz.
The shooting happened at around 6:10 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Cafgu detachment in Barangay Da-an Sur, said Lieutenant Colonel Roderick Garcia, commander of the 12IB based in Banga, Aklan.
Esoy was watching television at the detachment’s administration office when Jimenez casually entered then shot his commander, said Garcia.
“Itong suspect nakainom. Nilapitan nya ang detachment commander tapos sabi, ‘Kamusta na’ sabay binaril,” said Garcia.
Esoy died of gunshot wounds on the left arm and chest.
The assistant detachment commander, Sergeant Jose Melysendy, arrested Jimenez then turned the suspect over to the Tapaz police station.
“A day before the shooting, nagpaalam si Jimenez sa detachment commander na uuwi pero hindi pinayagan kasi naka-red alert tayo,” said Garcia.
Jimenez’s gun, a loaded M16 rifle, was turned over to the Tapaz police station./PN
