Roxas dad hit for ‘meddling in traffic violation’

Councilor Jon Sumcad

ROXAS City – Councilor Jon Sumcad was complained for intervening in an apprehension of a traffic violator, police said.

The 45-year-old traffic enforcer Rene Bendoy went to the Roxas City police station to file a complaint in relation to what he said was Sumcad’s abuse of authority.

Bendoy said he was manning the traffic on McKinley Street on Saturday when he chanced upon a motorcycle with an open muffler and having no side mirror.

He added that the motorcycle driver – who he did not name – had no license.

Bendoy then impounded the motorcycle and brought the driver to the Traffic Management Unit (TMU) Office of the Roxas City police.

That was when Sumcad intervened, according to Bendoy.

The councilor went to the TMU Office and took the key of the impounded motorcycle from his hand, Bendoy said.

Panay News tried to reach Sumcad for comment. His staff said an interview will be scheduled.

No statement from Sumcad’s camp was issued as of this writing.

Meanwhile, netizens have expressed their disappointment over the incident.

Facebook user Ramon Bocala Artillero posted: “Tani ang sala, sala. Unfair na sa amon bilang isa ka rider. Gasunod kami sa laye sang city.”

Manuel Consing, another Facebook user, also posted: “Sa aton mga halangdon nga emplyado sang gobyerno tani gamay man nga respeto sa aton mga traffic enforcer. Pwede man bala naton mahinyo sa mayo nga paagi.”/PN
