BACOLOD City – Electrical wires in this city are being stolen, according to Mayor Evelio Leonardia. He appealed to the locals to watch out for the thieves.
The stealing of electrical wires is putting out street lights, the mayor said, citing reports reaching his office.
Streetlights at the Shopping area, particularly on Hilado Street, are no longer serviceable days after they were installed because their wires have been taken, said Leonardia.
Streetlight electrical wires are city government property. The streetlights are a public safety and convenience tool, he stressed.
Nonfunctional streetlights directly affect the public, especially at night, he pointed out.
“If it were left to me, I wanted the wires buried under ground,” said Leonardia. “But these thievery incidents prompted the installers to hang them instead.”
Installing new electrical wires is not easy. It requires government procurement procedure, which takes time, said the mayor./PN
