Aklan launches MSME mobile app

KALIBO, Aklan – A mobile application that seeks to make easier the marketing of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) products was launched earlier this week.

The oneAklan appl – Aklan’s first locally developed online selling platform – was made by Selah Studio, which is owned by Aklanon Heinz Militar.

The app – which the MSMEs can link to their Facebook accounts – can be downloaded in Google Play and Apple Store.

The app was a made during the Kapatid Mentor Me Program of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“We really want to unite MSMEs in Aklan,” said Militar during the launch of the app in Iloilo City on Monday.

The launch was done during the opening program of the Aklan Product Showcase at SM City Iloilo.

Currently, there are 133 featured products in the app from 20 sellers – 11 of them are from the food industry while the other nine, from the non-food sector.

“Aklan is the first province to have an application to consolidate the products,” said Marsh Bernabe, local economic investment promotion officer of Aklan.

DTI undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya, in her message read by DTI regional director Rebecca Rascon, said she hopes that the “innovative marketing platform will be sustained.”

“Sustaining means supporting this application among our producers,” she added.

For her part, Gingay Hontiveros-Malvar of the Philippine Center for Entrepreneurship (PCE) said the launch of the app serves as “renewed hope for further development and access to markets for hundreds of Aklanon entrepreneurs.”

She added that for the past 30 years, they have been “behind for the push for development and empowerment of micro-entrepreneurs in the Philippines.” (With PNA/PN)
