BACOLOD City – The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) will join the nationwide candle-lighting activity today at 6 p.m. in celebration of the National Electrification Awareness Month.
Ceneco Member-Consumer Integrated Services Division chief Roel Venus said 275 people composed of member-consumers, Ceneco workers, local officials, and other stakeholders will be lighting the candles in front of the electric cooperative’s main office along Gonzaga Street.
They will represent the 275 sitios that are covered by Ceneco’s electrification program, Venus added.
One-hundred twenty other electric cooperatives in the country will participate in the event.
The National Electrification Administration (NEA) said the event is one way to demand budget increase from Congress for the country’s Sitio Electrification Program.
The participants in the candle-lighting activity will also sign a pledge of commitment, which Venus said will “communicate the importance of electrification in the development of the communities in the Philippines.”
A tree-planting and a line-clearing activity will also be conducted in Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental in the morning./PN
