Tallo making most of his time

MARK Jayven Tallo is making the most of the minutes he’s getting in the absence of NLEX’s top guards. He helped the Road Warriors get off to a quick 3-1 start in the 2018 PBA Governors’ Cup.

Only in his second month with the Road Warriors, the Cebu native Tallo seems at home now with his new team after averaging 15 points, 2.5 rebounds and two assists in just two games.

Tallo, the 10th overall pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft, banged in 16 points, along with three assists and a rebound as NLEX shocked his former team TNT KaTropa on opening day, 103-90 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.

Two days later, the former De La Salle University Green Archers guard contributed 14 points, four rebounds and one assist as NLEX hammered a Stanley Pringle-less NorthPort, 123-107.

Tallo normed 24 minutes of play in the first two games, capitalizing on the playing time given to him by acting coach Jojo Lastimosa as the Road Warriors continue to miss starting guards Kiefer Ravena and Kevin Alas.

Making Road Warriors’ win even more impressive was the fact that the team did it with injured import Olu Ashaolu, and without head coach Yeng Guiao and slotman Asi Taulava.

“This is God’s Grace. Sobrang saya ko siyempre. I just hope na tuloy-tuloy na ito. This award gives me extra motivation to work harder than before,” said Tallo, who was named the Governors’ Cup’s first Best Player of the Week just a week ago.

Road Warriors will hope to continue its strong start when it battles San Miguel Beermen, which will not have June Mar Fajardo and Christian Standhardinger, tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
