ILOILO – Who will be the vice gubernatorial running mate of Partido Demokratiko Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan’s (PDP-Laban) presumptive candidate for governor, Cong. Arthur Defensor Jr.?
It will be made known on the first week of September, according to Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr.
Defensor flew to Metro Manila recently. He confirmed meeting Iloilo political leaders there but declined to name them.
He was with his son and namesake, the congressman of the 3rd District, Defensor said.
The one who would make the announcement is the vice gubernational candidate, according to the governor.
In August, Defensor said he was not discounting the possibility that his son’s running mate may come from the 1st District.
The 1st District is the acknowledged bailiwick of the politically influential Garin family.
The current vice governor is Christine Garin but she already announced she won’t be seeking reelection.
The 4th District’s Cong. Ferjenel Biron of the Nacionalista Party is widely believed to be Defensor Jr.’s rival for the governorship.
Biron claimed to have the support of the congressmen and mayors from the 2nd and 5th districts./PN
