GENERIKA Ayala Lifesavers banked on its experience to pull off a 25-14, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21, 15-4 win over Central Philippine University in an exhibition game at the CPU Gym in Jaro, Iloilo City.
Led by Ilongga Fiola Ceballos, Bacolodnon Patty Jane Orendain, Angeli Araneta, and Marivic Meneses, Lifesavers fought tooth and nail with CPU to sweep the five-set match on Friday evening.
Lifesavers already won the first three sets but â wanting to stretch some more muscle in preparation for future tournaments â the teams agreed to extend the game to five sets, said CPU sports director Edwin Caro Laru-an.
âBoth teams agreed to extend the match to five sets regardless of the outcome,â Laru-an told Panay News. âIt was beneficial for them as they gear up for upcoming tournaments.â
Ilongga April Ross Hingpit, Shiela Marie Pineda, Carol Anne Cervesa, Mikaela Lopez, and Kathleen Arado saw action for Lifesavers under head coach Sherwin Meneses.
Glaudine Trongcoso, Adrianne Celiz, Euna Gene Piosca, Dessa Mae Puyo, and Pearl Ann Denura carried the scoring cudgels for CPU.
Also seeing action for CPU â the 2018 National PRISAA champion â were Sharice Ann Coscolluella, Shyrel Ambrocio, Ritchelle Amuan, Beatrice Arabia, Daniela Eguico, Danika Galila, Glezel Anne Ledesma, Je-Ann Magnetico, Riza Mae Serrano, Jolina Torres, and Eunice Guevarra.
In the preliminary match CPU â also the Rebisco U-18 volleyball league Western Visayas runner-up â recovered from a set down to score 21-25, 25-14, 15-9 over Ramon Avanceña National High School./PN
