BACOLOD City – Negrense boxer Rogen Ladon was welcomed with a celebration as he arrived in his hometown in Bago City, Negros Occidental yesterday.
Ladon bagged the silver medal in the men’s flyweight category during the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia last month.
The 24-year-old Ladon of Barangay Lag-asan, Bago City has assured himself of the silver medal after he defeated Thailand’s Tondee Yuttapong in the semifinals.
A motorcade followed by a program at the Bantayan Park was held to celebrate Ladon’s victory yesterday.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo and Vice Mayor Ramos Torres gave Ladon a plaque of recognition, a P50,000 check and a copy of the Sangguniang Panlungsod resolution congratulating him.
According to Ladon, the ABAP Gym in Bago served as his training ground while preparing for the national competition.
Ladon studied at the Lag-asan Elementary School and completed his first year in high school at the Ramon Torres National High School.
When he became a member of the national team, Ladon transferred to the Baguio City National High School and finished his secondary education there in 2012.
Yulo said celebrating Ladon’s victory is one way to appreciate his struggles to bring glory to Bago and to inspire young people who want to follow his footsteps./PN
