ATENEO de Iloilo kicked off its title-retention bid in elementary basketball of the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Meet with a 72-49 victory over PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys at the Ateneo de Iloilo Gym.
Yeshua Manuel Verga led the way with 15 points while Jurrien Iñigo Tenorio chipped in 14 markers for Ateneo, which banked on its hot shooting and tight defense the entire game Monday to fend off Westbridge.
In other elementary basketball games, Hua Siong College of Iloilo walloped Santa Isabel College of Iloilo 52-12 while University of San Agustin made a quick work of Santa Clarita International School Primes 70-18.
In the secondary level, category A includes defending champion Hua Siong, Ateneo de Iloilo, CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights, St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets, Sun Yat Sen High School, and PAREF-Westbridge.
Category B includes John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, Bethany Life Christian Academy, Iloilo Scholastic Academy, Iloilo Sacred Heart School, Saint Joseph School, Santa Isabel College of Iloilo, and University of San Agustin.
Moreover, John B. will defend its tertiary level title against contenders San Agustin, Iloilo Doctors’ College and Western Institute of Technology.
Aside from basketball, other sporting events in the annual ISSA Meet are volleyball, athletics, swimming, badminton, table tennis, taekwondo, and football./PN
