5 Antique towns finish orientation for new brgy execs

SAN JOSE, Antique – Newly elected village officials from five towns in Antique have completed attending orientations made for them by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

A series of three-day orientations began on Sept. 15, covering the towns of Barbaza, Laua-an, Sibalom, Culasi, and Tobias Fornier, according to DILG provincial director Cherryl Tacda.

The orientations were held in different venues. The village officials who attended these were grouped by batches composed of 100 to 120 members.

The DILG targets to complete conducting the orientations in Antique’s 16 remaining towns by October or November, Tacda said on Friday.

She added that barangay internal rules and procedures, council and committee functions, budget, advocacies, and information gathering are among the topics discussed in the DILG orientation.

The orientations also aim to make village officials draft their plans for their first 100 days in office.

The village officials assumed post last June 30. They are expected to report their accomplishments for the first 100 days in the synchronized barangay assembly on Oct. 14.

Tacda said she is expecting 100-percent participation from the province’s 590 barangays during the assembly.

She added that they have already informed the barangay officials about the assembly.

“We hope all the barangays in the province would participate in this synchronized activity nationwide,” Tacda said, adding that the assembly is held twice a year.

“We also encourage the constituents to take time to participate because it would be an opportunity for them to hear the plans, ongoing projects and financial statements of the barangay,” she added. (With a report from PNA/PN)
