Hua Siong boys drub Ateneo cagers in ISSA

HUA Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix cruised to their second straight win in secondary basketball of the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association Meet at the Western Institute of Technology gym in Iloilo City.

The defending champions scored a lopsided 98-57 victory over Ateneo de Iloilo. Reynold Tupas led the Red Phoenix with 15 points while Lee Yanzi Jimera added 14 markers in the Saturday game.

Hua Siong were scorching on the offensive end since the start. Their 25-5 advantage grew to as high as 30-plus points en route to the solo lead in category A (2-0). Ateneo dropped to 0-1.

In the other category A match, CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights opened its campaign with a 90-63 rout on PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys. Ronald Silorio II led the Silver Knights with 23 points as Adrian James Germinal added 15.

In category B, University of San Agustin had a rousing start toward a 79-29 victory over St. Joseph School. Gilson Siscar finished with 12 markers for San Agustin.

Iloilo Sacred Heart School also had a winning start with a 67-58 triumph over Santa Isabel College of Iloilo. Joseph Polmo made 26 points while Alexll Kyle Laguna added 17 for the winning team.

Action resumes today with St. Roberts International Academy taking on Sun Yat Sen High School in category A at 1 p.m., followed by the tertiary match between John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University and Iloilo Doctors’ College, and WIT and San Agustin./PN
