Hua Siong high school boys keep slate clean ISSA basketball

HUA SIONG College of Iloilo Red Phoenix kept their unbeaten record in secondary boys basketball of the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association Meet at the Western Institute of Technology gym in Iloilo City.

Red Phoenix tarnished the record of St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets with an 83-71 victory Wednesday. Reynold Tupas led Hua Siong with 21 points while Jasper Antijendra added 16 markers.

The defending champions, the Red Phoenix stayed on top of category A with a 3-0 win-loss slate, while the Panda Rockets slipped to second with 2-1.

Meanwhile, Jose Rey Tuya scored on a game-winning layup as CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights (2-1) scored a come-from-behind 73-71 victory over Sun Yat Sen High School (0-3).

With the scores tied at 71-all, Tuya drove past the defense for a layup for the Silver Knights to surge ahead, before sealing the victory with a huge steal. Lester Valn Paraico led the way with 25 points while Ronald Silorio and Tuya had 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, the Silver Knights were down by as much as 16 points before coming up with a huge run behind Paraico and 3-pointers from Jhan Rei Congreso and Adrian Germinal to force a deadlock.

In the other category A match, PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys tallied their first win in three games with a 58-46 victory over Ateneo de Iloilo (1-2). Heineken Pelayo made 20 points while Karl Benedict Alolor added 18 markers for the winning team.

In the lone category B match, Santa Clarita International High School Primes (2-1) walloped Iloilo Scholastic Academy (1-2). Frank Steven Tono top-scored with 23 points while Mon Alfred Pedrajas added 15 for the Primes./PN
