ILOILO City – The lawyer of the slain suspected drug lord Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr. was shot dead.
Atty. Edeljulio Romero was shot on the back of his head around 1 p.m. on Friday while he was eating at a carinderia in Barangay Culasi, Roxas City.
Chief Superintendent John Bulalacao, director of Police Regional Office 6, said three assailants were responsible for Romero’s death.
A hot pursuit operation was launched against the suspects who were still unidentified as of this writing.
According to initial information, Romero – a member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines Iloilo – and his wife were waiting to board on a roll-on, roll-off vessel bound for Manila when the shooting happened.
Police consider Romero a “high-value target level 3” in their campaign againdt ilegal drugs, Bulalacao said in a statement.
